Thank you for trying out the Firefox® Extension for Google Scholar™! You are entitled to use this software on an “as is” basis and create derivative works from it for non-commercial purposes, including personal and workplace use. But you first need to obtain CCC’s permission if you want to sell this software or any information, services, or software associated with or derived from it, or if you want to modify, copy or license it, except as provided below. If you have comments on the CCC Software or ideas on how to improve it, please do so in the “Comments” section of Copyright Labs or email us at copyrightlabs@copyright.com. By using this software, including any third party software you make available in conjunction with this software (“CCC Software”), you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions (the “Terms and Conditions for the Use of CCC Software”) and all applicable laws. This software and other intellectual property that you may find in Copyright Labs is referred to below as “Copyright Labs Materials”. 1. Proper Use of the Materials You Find in Copyright Labs. (a) Copyright Labs Materials are the property of CCC or its suppliers and are protected by the intellectual property laws of the United States and other countries. Copyright Labs Materials may be modified or taken down by CCC at any time without notice or obligation to you. You may use Copyright Labs Materials solely for non-commercial use. (b) Accordingly, you agree that you will not copy, reproduce, alter, modify, publicly perform or publicly display Copyright Labs Materials, except as explicitly provided in these Terms and Conditions. (c) In addition, you may not do any of the following: (i) use Copyright Labs Materials to sell a product or service, or (ii) use the Copyright Labs Materials elsewhere or reformat, display, or mirror them. If you wish to use Copyright Labs Materials in any of these prohibited fashions, please contact us for permission at copyrightlabs@copyright.com. CCC reserves the right to take appropriate legal action to remedy any use of Copyright Labs Materials that infringes upon CCC’s intellectual property rights or otherwise violates these Terms and Conditions; and CCC reserves the right to suspend, terminate or interfere with your access to Copyright Labs Materials in any such case. 2. Other CCC Terms. These Terms and Conditions include CCC’s general Privacy Policy (available at http://www.copyright.com/ccc/do/viewPage?pageCode=i3). They do not, however, apply to any other CCC product or service, each of which has its own terms and conditions. CCC reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time, which modification shall be effective immediately upon posting within Copyright Labs. Accordingly, we suggest that you check this Terms and Conditions page periodically. For your convenience, we expect to place and update as appropriate a “date last revised” at the bottom of this page. 4. User Contributions. There are many opportunities within Copyright Labs for you to actively participate. In doing so, you may provide comments, suggestions, data or other information to CCC (collectively and separately, “Information”). You agree that CCC may retain and use any such Information in current or future products or services without compensation to you. To the extent that any Information is protectable under intellectual property laws, you agree to cooperate with CCC to obtain such protection as CCC may request and you agree to assign all your rights to such Information to CCC without additional compensation. Otherwise, any such Information is subject to CCC’s general Privacy Policy as it applies to information that CCC may collect and use in its licensing products and services. 5. NO WARRANTY; LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. As noted above, all Copyright Labs Materials are experimental in nature and may be removed or altered by CCC at any time in our sole discretion and without obligation to you. Copyright Labs Materials have not been tested in any manner, and CCC does not represent that they are accurate, complete, reliable or valid. THEY ARE PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITH NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. YOU USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK. CCC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING THE COPYRIGHT LABS MATERIALS, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL CCC BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH COPYRIGHT LABS MATERIALS, WHETHER OR NOT CCC HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL CCC BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY AMOUNT. Some states do not allow the exclusion of warranties, and some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations and exclusions may not apply to you. 6. Release and Waiver. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you hereby release and waive all claims against CCC and its employees, directors, officers and agents from any and all liability for claims, damages (actual or consequential), costs and expenses (including litigation costs and attorneys’ fees), of every kind and nature, arising out of or in any way connected with use of Copyright Labs Materials. 7. Indemnity and Hold Harmless. You hereby indemnify and agree to defend and hold CCC, and its employees, directors, officers and agents, harmless from and against any third-party claim arising from or in any way related to your use of Copyright Labs Materials, including any liability or expense arising from any and all claims, losses, damages of any kind, suits, judgments, litigation costs and attorneys’ fees. In such a case, CCC agrees to provide you with written notice of any such claim, suit or action. 8. Arbitration; Equitable Relief. Any claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms and Conditions shall be settled by binding arbitration in accordance with the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association. The parties shall elect to proceed with a single arbitrator and the decision of the arbitrator will be final and unappealable. The arbitration shall be conducted, at the option of the complainant, in Boston, Massachusetts, or New York, New York, and nowhere else, and judgment on any award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof. Notwithstanding the foregoing, CCC may at any time seek an injunction or other form of equitable relief — for example, to cause any infringement of Copyright Labs Materials to cease — from any court of competent jurisdiction, and you agree to submit to the jurisdiction of any court located in Boston, Massachusetts, or New York, New York, for any application by CCC for equitable relief. 9. Miscellaneous. (a) You may not assign any rights or delegate any obligations that you may have under these Terms and Conditions, in whole or in part, voluntarily or by operation of law, without CCC’s prior written consent in its sole discretion. Any purported assignment or delegation without CCC’s consent will be of no force or effect. (b) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in these Terms and Conditions, you and CCC are independent contractors, are not partners, joint venturers, agents, employers or employees of the other, and shall not bind or seek to bind the other to any contract. (c) If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be deemed superseded by a valid enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remaining provisions shall be enforced. (d) CCC’s failure to act with respect to a breach by you or others does not waive CCC’s right to act with respect to subsequent or similar breaches. CCC’s failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. (e) These Terms and Conditions shall be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, except for the provisions thereof of conflicts of law. (f) These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between you and CCC with respect to the subject matter hereof. This page last updated 7/10/2007.

Installation

1. Click Agree & Download button above.
2. The first time you install an extension from any new source, Firefox will ask you to confirm the action with a yellow prompt like this:



3. To install the extension you will need to click the Edit Options button at the right edge of the bar, displaying this prompt:



4. Click the Allow button to add copyrightlabs.com to your list of allowed Firefox extension sites, then Close to close the list.
5. Finally, click the Agree & Download button again. Firefox will display the following dialog box. Click the “Install Now” button.



6. Restart Firefox to begin using the extension.

How to Use

1. Conduct content search via Google Scholar.
2. When you identify the content you want, click the “Copyright.com Search” link below that item.

   

3. Check for available rights and pricing to use and share that content.
4. Order copyright permissions as needed or identify the appropriate rights agent for that content.
